The Dallas Cowboys suffered a rather heartbreaking defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in their Wild Card game on Sunday. Making things worse, fans were absolutely disappointed with the result and reportedly threw trash at the players and the referees.

Dallas' painful loss to the 49ers ended in a controversial manner after Dak Prescott rushed in the middle and attempted to snap the ball and save the final play for one last chance to score. However, time expired, with the referees seemingly playing a role in the shocking and confusing turn of events.

Naturally, there were a lot of frustrations with the playcalling and the referees' officiating in the game, so much so that some fans were caught throwing various staff onto the field–with Cowboys players and the refs being the target. In fact, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence was hit by what appears to be a water bottle.

While the anger is understandable, especially for a passionate fan base like the Cowboys, there is simply no room for such gestures in the sports.

Besides, if the fans are frustrated, the Cowboys players are just as disappointed or more. Running back Ezekiel Elliott said as much after their defeat, noting how much the loss hurt.

The Cowboys needed a miracle to win after falling 17-6 at halftime, but they played hard and mounted a second half comeback to cut the deficit to just six points and get the ball with one minute remaining. However, their efforts ended in vain.

It remains to be seen what action the Cowboys will take with regards to this incident, but they surely have a lot to address this offseason.
