The San Francisco 49ers upset the Dallas Cowboys to advance to the NFC Divisional Round. What potential opponents are in their future?

For a stretch of the season, it didn’t look like the 49ers would even make the playoffs. Then they embraced the idea of “bully ball” and they haven’t looked back.

After showing the Cowboys but they’re all about, the Niners can look forward to the next round of playoff action.

San Francisco doesn’t have to calculate anything to figure out their next opponent. The matchup is officially set.

San Francisco 49ers: What teams could they play in the NFC Divisional Round?

The 49ers will play the No. 1 seed Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.

The Packers got the first-round bye because of their excellent performance this season. They also get to host because of it.

Green Bay and San Francisco met in the NFC Championship Game in 2019, with the 49ers advancing on. They were not so lucky earlier this season when they played the Packers at Levi’s Stadium. Aaron Rodgers and company came away with a 30-28 victory in that one.

It’ll be a tough ask for the 49ers to go to Lambeau Field in the dead of winter and get a victory. Then again, few expected this team to knock the Cowboys around the way they did.

If San Francisco continues to shock the world and manages to upset Green Bay as well, they would set up an AFC Championship Game matchup against the Buccaneers, Rams or Cardinals.

Tom Brady’s team already advanced past the Eagles. They’re waiting for the result of the Los Angeles-Arizona game on Monday to find out who they will face in the Divisional Round.

One thing looks certain: No one will be overly eager to take on these 49ers in the playoffs.
