Butch Goring is a current on-air talent for MSG’s coverage of the New York Islanders. Of course, he is better known for being a vital cog in the Isles dynasty that won four consecutive Stanley Cups.

That still makes him “an enemy” to the New York Rangers fanbase, especially for those that remember the early 80’s. Although, Goring seems to be endearing himself with even the younger Blueshirts fans on social media.

Butch Goring takes a shot Rangers fans

It all began when a fan responded to a tweet by Goring to send Mathew Barzal to the All-Star Game via The Last Men In voting. Goring noted that Barzal’s talent was meant for 3 on 3 All-Star action, while the fan stated that Barzal would be the Rangers 3C right now.

That led to a little debate but then Goring opted to throw in a jab: “I did not know the Nyr fans were even on Twitter,” he wrote. “I guess they were in hibernation the last 3 years.”

Obviously, Goring is referencing the last three years of the rebuild that is now bearing fruit as the team is atop the Metro Division. Meanwhile, the Islanders have played Bridesmaid to the Lightning’s Stanley Cup runs twice over the last two seasons.

Butch may also be a little sad with the Isles at the bottom of the Metro with just 28 points and unlikely to make the playoffs. The Isles are 18 points behind the red-hot Bruins for the final Wild Card spot in the East.

By the way, remember to vote for Mika Zibanejad to go to the All-Star Game over Barzal here.

Taxi Squad Moves

Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Rangers have announced that Anthony Greco has been reassigned back to the Hartford Wolf Pack. Also the team has moved Jonny Brodzinski and Tim Gettinger to the taxi squad.

This should signal the apparent returns of both Barclay Goodrow and Alexis Lafrenière from COVID protocol for the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday (1/19).

Dryden Hunt is also skating and could be activated after an upper-body injury put him on IR (1/8).
