Consider it acknowledged: Roman Reigns is now the longest-reigning WWE Universal Champion.

WWE celebrated the historic feat with a congratulatory post on Twitter:

Roman Reigns has now held the Universal Champion crown for 504 days and counting, surpassing the 503-day record previously held by Brock Lesnar. Ironically so, it was also Reigns who ended the former UFC star's reign back when he defeated The Beast Incarnate for the championship at SummerSlam 2018.

The Tribal Chief's title reign began on Aug. 30, 2020 when he dethroned “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at WWE Payback. Since then, Reigns has been on a tear, destroying everyone in his path en route to this historic run.

Reigns is currently in a program with his former Shield buddy Seth Rollins. The two are set to face each other for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble, which will be held on Jan. 29 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Brock Lesnar actually had a chance to prevent Roman Reigns from breaking his record at the WWE's Day 1 Event. The two colossal specimens were supposed to go at it for the Universal Championship on New Year's Day. However, the Head of the Table missed the event entirely after testing positive for COVID-19 and the match was canceled.

To compensate, WWE inserted Lesnar into the initially slated four-way match for the WWE Championship. Lesnar ended up winning the WWE Title, pinning and dethroning Big E to capture the sixth WWE Championship of his career. The Mayor of Suplex City will now defend his newly won title against Bobby Lashley at the Royal Rumble.

Despite having their own respective feuds right now, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar should still cross paths in the future.
