Ange Postecoglou hands Celtic surprising injury boost

It is safe to say that things are looking up for Celtic going into the second half of the campaign. They have already made significant additions to their squad this January by bringing in Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi and Johnny Kenny. And on the injury front, things appear to be looking up for the Hoops as well, as the majority of their recently injured stars would be expected to be available after the winter break.

One player who appeared to have had a long-term injury though is David Turnbull. The Scottish midfielder has been one of the most active players in Ange Postecoglou’s team this season.

And it finally appeared to catch up to him, as he was forced off the pitch in the Scottish League Cup final. Fortunately for Celtic, it did not end up having an impact on the result of the match.

Now, there is an exciting update on the injury status of Turnbull as well as it does not look like his injury is as long-term as first feared and he could be back in action soon. As reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou said regarding the matter:

"“It’s a matter of weeks, rather than anything longer.”"

It is safe to say that this is very promising news for Celtic. Turnbull was expected to be out of action for significantly longer and it will be a huge boost to have him back available as soon as possible.

Of course, when he does return to the pitch, he will have a lot more competition than he did back in December.

The club signed Hatate and Ideguchi in January, both midfielders. And the former Kawasaki Frontale star in particular could be the one competing for first-team minutes with Turnbull.

It remains to be seen how things turn out but one would be hoping to see Turnbull back in action at the earliest possible.
