It was a bit of a head scratcher when the report was made public. After the Pittsburgh Penguins were knocked out of the playoffs in game seven by the New York Rangers, a report from The Athletic's Rob Rossi stated star player Sidney Crosby was medically cleared to play game 6, but the team - specifically GM Ron Hextall - wouldn't let him due to concerns over his concussion history. Rossi made the statement while doing an interview with a local radio station.

It's an odd quote from Vegas Golden Knights' General Manager Kelly McCrimmon, to say the least. McCrimmon fired head coach Peter DeBoer Monday after what was the worst season in the team's short history. DeBoer lasted under two-and-a-half seasons. He was hired after Gerard Gallant was fired in a move made specifically to bring DeBoer to Vegas after he was fired from the San Jose Sharks. Now, Gallant is headed to the second round of the 2022 NHL Playoffs with the New York Rangers, while DeBoer is unemployed. McCrimmon seems to believe that he still made the right move canning Gallant.

On Wednesday morning, the NHL continued their announcement of league awards, this time announcing the three candidates for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. The Lady Byng is an annual trophy given out to the player who exhibits the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of play. The three candidates for this year are Kyle Connor of the Winnipeg Jets, Jared Spurgeon of the Minnesota Wild, and Jaccob Slavin of the Carolina Hurricanes.

A few NHL teams have some heavy tasks to complete over the summer, and the Pittsburgh Penguins have among the heaviest. Two of the team's core players for so many years- Evgeni Malkin and Kris LeTang, will become free agents on July 1st, and Pittsburgh needs to decide if it wants to try and win with the aging core of Malkin, LeTang, and Sidney Crosby, or if it's time to move on. Asked about this prospect on Tuesday, Malkin said he wants to stay in Pittsburgh, but he's prepared for whatever happens.

Roy has been named the General Manager of the Year in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for his work with the Quebec Remparts. Despite being the GM and head coach of the hockey team for several years now, this is his first time winning the Maurice Filion Trophy.
