The Bottom Line: What is a G80? The G80 is an executive sedan manufactured by Korean luxury automaker Genesis, which is owned by Hyundai Motor Company. The redesigned 2021 Genesis G80 is a great luxury midsize car. The G80 has a hushed and high end interior with generous seating space, a sizable trunk, and an easy to use infotainment system.

Genesis is the new luxury brand that was created in 2015 as Hyundai’s upscale spinoff. It ambitiously aims to battle the likes of Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz. The larger G80 and G90 sedans are too anonymous to truly enter the big leagues, but they do offer fantastic value compared with those German luxury sedans. While fairly new, every Genesis model is made with precision engineering to deliver unrivaled levels of reliability, and set a new standard for sophistication.

The new 2022 Genesis G80 3.5T Sport is the result of a mission to develop a deep connection between you and the car. From its unique styling, high performance drivetrain, and race inspired available carbon fiber interior trim, the G80 3.5T Sport is begging to be driven.

This week Genesis sent me a 2022 G80 AWD 3.5T Sport Prestige luxury sedan with a base window sticker price of $63,450 to test drive and review. The options on the press car are: the Sport Prestige equipment package with all season tires for $6,800, and the metallic paint for $500. The total MSRP manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including the $1,045 destination charge, came to: $71,795.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the total purchase price came to: $80,770. This puts the G80 over the luxury price threshold of $75,000, and you get so much more in a Genesis than any other luxury car.

With the new for the 2022 G80 AWD all wheel drive is now standard with the V-6 engine, and the top of the line Sport Prestige model has rear wheel steering. Genesis will launch a performance oriented model of its G80 luxury car with unique styling cues early this year.

First class power defines the G80, which starts off with a best in class standard 3.5L liter twin turbo 311 hp V6 engine. The new G80 3.5T Sport features standard AWD All Wheel Drive, plus a 3.5L liter twin turbocharged 375 hp engine and rear wheel steering, allowing you to extract 60 mph from a standstill in a quick 4.9 seconds.

The Prestige Package adds power soft close doors, leather upholstery, and additional power adjustments for the driver’s seat, a front passenger walk in feature which allows the driver to conveniently adjust the passenger seat without having to reach to the opposite side controls, heated rear seats, and an ergonomically correct set of seats for extra comfort.

The new 2022 G80 is artfully disruptive and a prodigy among luxury sedans. From thoughtfully engineered architecture and dynamic lines, to supple interior and a sweeping fascia, the G80 knows how to make an entrance. The luxury midsize sedan’s ample width gives it an imposing presence, complemented by intelligent features for luxury first class comfort. The G80 is also backed by an excellent 10 year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

The G80 has 8 direct competitors, and they are the: Audi A6, Mercedes Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Lexus ES, Volvo S90, Jaguar XF, Maserati Ghibli, and the Acura RLX. If you are considering buying any of these Luxury midsize Sport Sedans, just stop, and take a moment to consider a Genesis G80. The level of refinement, range of options, overall comfort and performance, are all at the top of the list, with a price that is $1,000’s of dollars less than the other guys.

Then, is Genesis a great car? The answer is Yes, and Genesis actually is beating Lexus in some closely watched measures of quality and reliability, according to Mark Del Rosso, CEO of Genesis North America. In 2021, Genesis topped every luxury brand in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study for the first 90 days of ownership, for the fifth straight year in a row.

So, when you’re ready to buy a new luxury midsize sedan, the Genesis G80 should be at the top of your ride and drive list, as it’s the one of the best all new midsize luxury cars for sale today. Call, click or visit your local Genesis dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on the new 2022 G80. And remember that the base window sticker price for a new G80 starts at only $48,000. The Genesis G80 is “Luxury Evolved”
