Something mysterious is happening with PlayStation today – the PS5 is starting to list PS3 games, yet you’re not able to buy them, as spotted by VGC.

Before, trying to view PS3 games on the PS5’s PSN store, it’ll just take you to the PS Now versions of the games. Now they’re listing as their own, individual purchase prices – games like Prince of Persia, Dead or Alive 5 and Bejeweled. It also appears that some games not available through PS Now in some regions are also appearing in the PSN as well.

Earlier this week, news broke out that Mark Cerny filed a patent that suggest he figured out how to bring PS3 into the PS5 hardware – and these PS3 findings may be the effects of that. I sure hope so.

Or this could be part of the new PS Plus and PS Now merge that Bloomberge reported a while ago as a relaunch of the service with several tiers:

  • Tier 1 – Existing Plus Benefits
  • Tier 2 – A Large Catalogue of games to compete with Game Pass
  • Tier 3 – Extended demos, game streaming and classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games.

We will see how long these PS3 listing last, but if that report is any indication, at least we’ll have a service as comparable as Game Pass – although I would much rather just have my reach with my PS3 digital assets; there’s thousands of dollars in my PS3 vault that I cannot touch unless I have a PS3 – and I don’t have one. This feels like a curse.

The current listings seem like a bug of some sort as users cannot purchase, despite the prices being visible – trying to do so would net you an error.
