A Two-Decade Old Ford F-350 Chassis Cab Was Sold For $55,000 On Bring A Trailer

As modern trucks become more and more complex, the demand for older, mechanically simpler ones seems to increase. A perfect example of that is this 2000 Ford F-350 XL, which just sold for $55,000.

The truck was listed for sale on Bring A Trailer, where it showed just 6,200 miles (9,978 km) on the odometer. For these types of trucks, that might as well be brand new. It also features all-wheel drive, a chassis cab configuration, a manual transmission, and the 7.3-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V8 engine, making it quite the desirable package for working professionals and collectors alike.

The F-350 is finished in Red Clearcoat with a black grille and bumper, a color choice that was likely intentional, seeing as it first and most recent home was at a fire department. That would also explain a lot of this truck’s configuration, as a fire department would likely need a capable, powerful vehicle that was also reliable and durable with flexible storage options. And seeing as this truck is, again, a 4×4 dually chassis cab with a turbodiesel engine and a manual transmission, it seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Other features include a 40-gallon fuel tank, a 4.10:1 limited-slip rear axle, chassis-mounted brake lights, an auxiliary idle controller, heavy-service suspension, an AM/FM radio, and air conditioning. Additionally, the aforementioned 7.3-liter turbodiesel V8 is good for a respectable 235 hp (238 PS / 175 kW) and 500 lb-ft (678 Nm) of torque, which gets sent to either the rear or all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case.

However, while we can absolutely understand the desire for a truck from a simpler time, $55,000 for it is an interesting proposition, as after playing around with Ford’s configurator, we found that a similarly configured F-350 XL (chassis cab, dually, 4×4, diesel, etc.) would actually be nearly the exact same price today.
