Premier Hockey Federations on January 16: Six vs. Beauts, Riveters vs. Whale | Faceoffs, How to Watch

North America’s first women’s professional hockey league to pay players a salary is adopting the new title on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, as part of a rebranding to reflect sweeping changes made to its management structure, coupled with an influx of private ownership entering its seventh season.

After a couple of lopsided wins on Saturday, the two best offenses in the Premier Hockey Federation look for respective weekend sweeps as league action continues of Sunday.

BUFFALO BEAUTS (1-5-0) vs. TORONTO SIX (8-1-1)

The Six came out flying, wasting little time to show their offensive prowess against the Beauts in their first game on Sunday, as Leah Marino scored her first of two goals minutes into the contest. That was followed up by a tally from the PHF’s leading score, Mikyla Grant-Mentis to put Toronto up by a pair. Then, in the waning minutes of the period, Amy Curlew scored her first pro goal to give the Six a 3-0 lead.

Meaga Beres added another for the Six in the second, while Taylor Day and Marino added goals in the third, and despite a goal from Buffalo’s Cassidy MacPherson, Toronto would go on to win 6-1.

Toronto has now won four-straight games, while the Beauts fall to 1-5 on the season.

METROPOLITAN RIVETERS (2-4-1) vs. CONNECTICUT WHALE (7-3-1)

  • Time: 6:00 p.m. ET
  • Where: Danbury Ice Arena (Danbury, Ct.)
  • Stream: ESPN+

In the later game on Saturday saw the Whale flex their muscle against the Riveters. The league-leading offense outshot Metro 41-18. However,they were not able to score until late in the first when Kaycie Anderson scored her first goal of the season. In the second period, Taylor Girard’s shorthanded marker and Amanda Conway’s power play goal extended the Whale lead to three by the end of 40 minutes.

PHF-leading goal scorer, Kennedy Marchment, added her seventh goal of the season, before Shanon Turner put the icing on the cake in the third. The Riveters’ Kelly Babstock scored to break the shutout, but it was too little, too late, as the Whale improve to 7-3-1 with the 5-1 win.
