Guitarist Gary Hoey Returns Beyond the Mic

Welcome Gary Hoey:

We’re joined on the Starline by a hard rock and blues rock guitarist singer and songwriter. We missed him last year due to the pandemic but he returns Beyond the Mic for a 4th time, second only in appearances to TSO’s Al Pitrelli. We welcome our friend Gary Hoey.

Yes, finally. brother, I’m glad to hear you well and hope your family is the same, let’s go Beyond the Mic. 21 albums, plenty of Top 20 hits and finally back on tour again, what makes the road special to you?

Last time we talked about your album Neon Highway Blues and how special it was to have your son on the album. How did your time in quarantine change your perspective on family especially your mother?

Every time we have you on, we get a Gary Hoey Guitar tip. Since my son is studying music education at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music he had a question for you. “When you were younger, what song or album changed your perspective on music?”

You teach others music, what’s the secret to sharing your gifts? Both, you give guitar lessons, rock fantasy camps. What’s the secret to being so open to sharing that gift?

Well, you give your gifts so freely, especially like your yearly guitar giveaway?

New this year to the tour is the Ho Ho Hoey Holiday Picks, how do people pick some of those up?

You said on social media recently, “Keep climbing, keep pushing, you got this! The best view comes after the hardest climb.” What was your hardest climb recently?

The Rockin’ 8:

It’s time for the Rockin’ 8, 8 random questions; answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There is no Pressure.

1. Favorite moment with your mom?

2. Longest distance you’ve power walked?

3. What scared you as a child?

4. If you could play one song with a long gone star, who would it be with?

5. What do you collect?

6. Favorite Sandwich?

7. Favorite fruit?

8. One piece of wisdom you want to share with kids discovering the guitar?

The Back Half with Gary Hoey:

Gary, you’re huge into fitness, what’s your daily routine?

As Ian is enjoying his sophomore year at Belmont, how has his love of music changed the way you appreciate music on your own?

You’re heading back onto the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp and the Rock Legends Cruise. Why will this year more special than in the past?

So, what are you thankful for this year?

One Big Question:

When you gave Ally away at her wedding this past July, what was going through your mind?

What makes the holidays so special to you?

1st song you have to play when you start the show…

The Wrap:

If he has to have a sandwich, he needs a good tuna fish, power walks six miles as many times a week as he can fit in and eats bananas to keep his hands perfect. We thank our friend Gary Hoey for taking the time to talk with us today.

And that my friends is Beyond the Mic.
