ESPN Suggests Panthers Trade For Packers’ QB Jordan Love

Looking ahead to the upcoming NFL offseason, there are going to be quite a few teams looking to make moves at the quarterback position. One of those teams could be the Carolina Panthers, who were not pleased with what they saw from Sam Darnold or Cam Newton. Could they consider making a move to trade for somebody like Green Bay Packers’ young quarterback Jordan Love?

How crazy would it be to see the Packers go from a breakup with Aaron Rodgers to moving his future replacement? Love has talent, but has not seen the field much in his first two NFL seasons.

ESPN has suggested that the Panthers could look to trade for Love. It’s certainly an option for any team looking to make a move for a young quarterback. Here’s a bit more about what they had to say of the idea.

Love would be a low-cost, high-upside alternative. They reportedly took a close look at Love before the 2020 draft.

Carolina has already lost its 2022 second-rounder because of the Darnold trade, so the Packers would have to wait until 2023 for what could be a very juicy selection. Green Bay might try to hold out for a first-round pick, but it’s not getting Carolina’s selection given where it’s likely to come in, and Love is already two years into his rookie deal.

Now this would be a very interesting move for both the Panthers and Packers. Green Bay would be able to acquire extra draft assets that they could use to bolster their roster in areas of need. Carolina, obviously, would get their new franchise quarterback and hopefully a long-term player to build around.

Love is coming off of a 2021 season that saw him get into some game action. He completed 58.1 percent of his pass attempts for 411 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also picked up 27 yards on the ground.

Those numbers may not scream star potential, but the kid has a great arm. He wasn’t able to get a single live snap in his rookie season, which put him behind the eight ball a bit. Love played solid football in the time he did get this season.

If the Panthers do want to take a shot on a potential franchise quarterback, trading for Jordan Love wouldn’t be a bad option. Only having to give the Packers 2023 second-round pick and a fourth-round pick would be worth the cost. This is an option that could make sense.

For the Packers, if they are going all-in on keeping Rodgers, trading Love is the right move. Love isn’t going to play in Green Bay and it would clear the air a bit for the franchise. Keep a close eye on a potential Love trade this offseason.
