Josh Allen had one of the greatest performances by a quarterback in NFL playoff history on Saturday night, showcasing the Buffalo Bills' dominance over the New England Patriots. Allen completed 21 of 25 passes for 308 yards with five touchdowns and added 66 yards on the ground, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 300 yards, run for 60 yards, and have five touchdowns passes in a playoff game.
Allen joined Cam Newton as the only quarterbacks ever -- regular season or playoff -- to accomplish that statline. Allen is just the ninth quarterback in NFL history to throw for 300 yards and five touchdowns in a playoff game, the first since Patrick Mahomes reached those marks in 2019.
The Bills scored a touchdown on their first seven drives in Saturday's blowout win over the Patriots, the first team in NFL history to reach that mark. No team ever scored a touchdown on more than four consecutive drives to start a playoff game before the Bills in the 2022 AFC Wild Card Round. The 47 points were the most points a Bill Belichick coached team has ever allowed in a playoff game, which includes Belichick's time as a head coach and defensive coordinator.
The five touchdown passes by Allen are the most in a game in Bills' playoff history. Allen is the seventh player to throw for 300 yards and rush for 60 yards in a playoff game, the first player since Lamar Jackson accomplished the feat in 2019. Allen has four games in the playoffs with 250 passing yards and 50 rushing yards -- no other quarterback has more than two.
Allen's dominance was on display Saturday night, as the Bills won a playoff game in consecutive years for the first time since reaching the Super Bowl in four consecutive years from the 1990 to 1993 seasons.
