Blue Jays Roundup: Hockey splits in doubleheader

The Jamestown High School hockey teams hosted Fargo North/South and Minot on Saturday.

The leading scorer in girls prep hockey, Rylee Bartz, added five goals to her season point total Saturday afternoon at Jamestown's Wilson Arena.

Bartz and the rest of the Fargo North/South crew, served up Jamestown its second loss of the week, outscoring the Jays 7-1.

Jamestown is now split at an even 6-6 overall. The Jays will travel East to take on Fargo Davies on Tuesday. The tilt is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m.

Bartz broke through the Jays defenses with barely two minutes gone in the first period, sliding one past Olivia Sorlie off an assist from Elise Anderson and Olivia Olson.

Bartz notched a trio of unassisted goals before Jamestown's Ellie Krueger got the best of Fargo/South netminder Savannah Wuitschick with just over five minutes gone in the second period.

Alexis Kirkeby, the state's second-leading scorer, assisted Krueger's score.

Scores from Bartz, Elsie Anderson and Anna Nelson iced Saturday's matchup.

Fargo North/South is currently
ranked third in the state at 7-4 and 8-4 overall.

Nenow tallies hattrick, Jays beat Minot

Five goals in 51 minutes solidified a huge win for Matt Stockert and the Jamestown High School boys hockey team Saturday afternoon.

Jamestown beat out Minot to take over the No. 1 spot in the WDA, improving to 10-2 in the West and 10-3 overall. Minot is the No. 2 rank in the WDA at 6-3 and 7-7 overall.

Hunter Nelson broke the ice with four minutes gone in the first period, sliding his unassisted goal-scoring shot past Minot netminder Noah Conklin to take a 1-0 lead.

Nolan Nenow followed his senior captain's lead, doubling the Jays' score with a bullet shot into the back of the net.

Minot's Jantz Buckmeier notched the Magicians' first goal of the game with just over one minute left to play in the first but one score could not hold up against three by the Jays in the third.

Nenow notched two more goals in the third. Zach Lunde secured the win with a goal scored nine seconds before the final horn.
