Justified star Timothy Olyphant will reprise his role as US Marshal Raylan Givens.

Nearly seven years after Justified ended its six-season run, the FX crime drama is returning to the network with a new limited series titled Justified: City Primeval.

Olyphant, recently seen in The Mandalorian as Cobb Vanth, will reprise his Emmy-nominated role based on the adaptation of the late Elmore Leonard's novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit.

The official synopsis for the new miniseries, as shared by The Hollywood Reporter, reads: "Having left the hollers of Kentucky eight years ago, Raylan Givens now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a US Marshal and part-time father of a 14-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind.

"A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit, [where] he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who's already slipped through the fingers of Detroit's finest once and aims to do so again."

The synopsis continues: "Mansell's lawyer, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder, has every intention of representing her client, even as she finds herself caught in between cop and criminal, with her own game afoot as well.

"These three characters set out on a collision course in classic Elmore Leonard fashion, to see who makes it out of the City Primeval alive."

Reflecting on the success of the show, Eric Schrier, president of FX Entertainment, said: "Justified was one of the most critically acclaimed shows of the past decade and an adaption of Elmore Leonard's work that was so colourfully brought to life by Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, Graham Yost and the entire team of producers, writers, directors and cast.

"To have this group come together again with Tim as Raylan in a new and different Elmore Leonard story is thrilling. I want to thank our showrunners Dave and Michael, and their fellow executive producers Tim, Graham, Sarah and Carl, the Elmore Leonard estate as well as our partners at Sony Pictures Television, for making this possible," he added.

As well as The Mandalorian, Olyphant has recently appeared in Fargo and voiced characters in Rick and Morty, American Dad! and The Simpsons.

He will also soon be seen in Havoc, a Netflix thriller from Gangs of London and The Raid's Gareth Evans. The movie also stars Tom Hardy, Shadow and Bone's Jessie Mei Li, Forest Whitaker, and The Umbrella Academy's Justin Cornwell.

The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now on Disney+. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+, while Rise of Skywalker is also on Sky Cinema Premiere and NOW.
