TRACKING THE STORYLINES:
Forget About It:For the first time this season the Carolina Hurricanes were shutout Thursday night, being washed by the Columbus Blue Jackets, 6-0. Post-game Rod Brind'Amour and several players said that they just weren't sharp, which was evident over the course of the 60 minutes of game play. On a positive spin it was perhaps the first performance of that kind in the Brind'Amour-era of Canes hockey. The club got back to basics at Friday's practice and will try to respond in a big way today.
Keep Killin' It:Carolina starts today's contest having killed off every penalty they've taken since December 9. Their current streak sits at 30, six shy of the franchise record, which has been done twice. As a part of that run, they've now become the NHL's #1 unit, holding opponents off the board in 90.1% of attempts this year.
Jump On 'Em Early:The Canucks have scored just 22 first period goals this season, which ranks tied for tied for 25th in the league. It's the period in which they score the least and in total their average of 2.5 goals per game this season ranks 28th.
