The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will be here before we know it, and the Tesla Cybertruck…well, no one is really sure when that’s coming. One this is certain, however; once these two electric trucks are on the market, there will be a fierce battle between them. After all, the Silverado EV is an electric take on an insanely popular – and conventional – pickup truck. On the other hand, the Tesla Cybertruck looks like something from Doctor Who. Which electric truck will reign supreme as the Cybermen’s vehicle of choice – or at least the bulk of humanity?

The 2024 Chevy Silverado has an affordable work truck and a crazy expensive RST

The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will be offering two choices: the Work Truck, which will be released first in the spring of 2023, followed by the RST Limited. The Silverado EV Work Truck price starts at $39,900. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST limited edition will come with the staggering price of $105,000.

The RST will be able to make 664 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque. GM also says it will be pretty fast, and able to get from 0 to 60 in just 4.5 seconds. The Silverado RST will also have hands-free highway driving and 24-inch wheels. The SIlverado EV. It will also share a platform with the GMC Hummer electric truck.

Tesla removed the Cybertruck price from its website

While Tesla did previously advertise the Cybetruck price on its website, it has removed that information, along with the Cybertruck’s release date. It was supposed to start at around $39,900 (not including destination charges). That was the price for the single motor, while the dual motor added on ten grand for $49,900. Then there was the tri-motor Cybertruck for $69,900. Kelley Blue Book notes that there are no tax rebates for Teslas anymore.

There’s currently no word on whether the price of the Cybertruck will be similar to these prices when it is finally released. While the Cybertruck was supposed to begin production in 2021, that was delayed until the very end of 2021. Then that was changed to some time in 2022. Now there is no official release date for the Cybertruck – though you can still put down a $100 deposit to reserve one, if you want.

Is the Silverado EV or Cybertruck a better electric truck?

For an electric truck that looks like it’s going to battle the Daleks, the Cybertruck can tow quite a bit. It can tow an astonishing 14,000 pounds. It also gets 500 miles of range on a single charge. Of course, this is sort of speculation at this point, as the Cybertruck’s current status is as well known as what makes up dark matter.

On the other hand, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV can tow even more. Its towing capacity will be 20,000 pounds, meaning it could tow the Cybertruck and whatever the Cybertruck is towing. It’s estimated to get up to 400 miles on a single charge, which is slightly less than the Cybertruck.

All said, the Tesla Cybertruck has an advantage, primarily due to its expected price. At less than half the cost of the Silverado EV, unless you have a regular need to be able to tow those extra 6,000 pounds, you can save some money and fulfill your childhood dream of driving a spaceship. Of course, Tesla actually has to release the Cybertruck. Until then, the Silverado EV may be your best bet.
