Miami Rapper Wavy Navy Pooh Has Died, Record Label Confirms, Reportedly Shot

Wavy Navy Pooh has died, the Miami-based rapper's record label announced on Friday. His cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Miami Herald reported that Wavy, whose real name was Shandler Beaubien, died after being shot while driving a car near Zoo Miami, citing unnamed law enforcement sources.

Miami-Dade Police Department has confirmed a fatal shooting took place near the zoo on Friday, but did not immediately confirm the identity of the victim. Newsweek has asked MDPD for comment.

The 25-year-old rapper's record label, Quality Control Music, confirmed Beaubien's death via an Instagram post, sharing a photo of him that said "Rest in Peace."

The label said Beaubien "put his heart and soul into his music."

"He believed in giving back to his community as well as sharing his hardships through his music."

It added: "Your life was a blessing and will never be forgotten."

The record label did not make reference to the rapper's cause of death.

Quality Control's Pierre "Pee" Thomas also posted about the death on Instagram but did not discuss how Wavy Navy Pooh had died.

Miami-Dade police confirmed on Friday that a fatal shooting had taken place and the victim had been driving a Toyota Camry.

Two children, aged five and one, were also in the car along with an adult woman. The woman and the children were unharmed.

The incident took place at the intersection of Southwest 152nd Street and 127th Avenue at the entrance to Deerwood community. That entrance is across the street from Zoo Miami. Police said the shots were fired from a gray Lexus.

MDPD Public Information Officer Alvaro Zabaleta told CBS Miami: "Once officers arrived is when they discovered in a Toyota 4-door that the driver was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Once fire rescue responded, they were able to pronounce the driver deceased here on the scene."

"The victim, in this case, was at the intersection of 152 Street and 127th Avenue getting ready to make a right to go eastbound on 152 Street. When an unknown vehicle, a Lexus approached him from the driver's side and opened fire and then fled westbound," Zabaleta said.

Wavy Navy Pooh was known for his song "M.I.A.M.I. (Murder is a Major Issue)" and the video for the song featured him waving a pistol as well as real footage of the MDPD responding to shooting incidents.

The rapper had previously been shot in May, 2020 while driving and suffered wounds in his thigh and leg. He told police at the time that he had fired back in self-defense after someone in a passing car opened fire on him.
