  1. Post update

Right, time for us to wrap things up here but don't forget you can watch all of today's Premier League action on Match of the Day tonight at 22:30 GMT on BBC one and iPlayer.

    See you later!

  2. 'The players rolled their sleeves up'

FT: Aston Villa 2-2 Man Utd

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard to Sky Sports: "I thought we improved a lot in the second half, but it took a lot of honesty at half time because for the first 25 minutes we did not commit to what we wanted to do. We prepared to be aggressive and on the front foot and jump on Man United, I thought there was an opportunity for us but credit to them, they were better.

"The first goal came off the back of us being passive and second best so we deserved to be in the position we were at half time. From there it could not be any worse, credit to the players we rolled up our sleeves up at 0-2, we were on the front foot, much more like I want Aston Villa to play.

"We took a lot of positives from Monday, but we lost so I expected the reaction we got at half time from the whistle and had we had that for 90 minutes we might have taken more than a point.

"If you are second best and don’t take the handbrake off you will be picked off. All our good stuff came off the real honesty we didn’t have in the first 25 minutes."

  3. 'Best performance since I arrived'

FT: Aston Villa 2-2 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ralph Rangnick speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It is difficult to accept this result after being 2-0 up and in quite a few spells of the game, I think it was the best performance since I arrived. In the first half an hour, we completely dominated and controlled the game on the ball. Defensively, we played compact and tight.

"But again, when you are 2-0 up and throw away two valuable points, it almost feels like a defeat, but we have to look ahead and take the best out of it. in spells, it was a very good performance today."

On disappointment they didn't score more than once in the first half: "We had other chances to score a second or third goal. We scored after 70 minutes, and 2-0 up with 20 minutes to play, we should be able to drive home with three points. But with the impetus and how compact we play, we have to play like that for 90, 95 minutes, not just 70 minutes"

On character to get a draw: "There are no easy games in the Premier League and there are always spells where it can go this way or that way. The same was true today. We had enough experience on the pitch to control the game and do the right things well for the rest of the game. We didn't and we have one point instead of three.

  4. Martial 'didn't want to travel'

    Aston Villa 2-2 Man Utd

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport at Villa Park

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has confirmed Anthony Martial opted not to be involved in today's game.

Martial has told Rangnick he wants to leave Old Trafford, with Sevilla interested in him.

"He didn’t want to be in the squad," said Rangnick.

"That is the reason why he didn’t travel yesterday."

  5. 'It feels like a defeat'

FT: Aston Villa 2-2 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick speaking to Sky Sports: "It is very difficult to find positives after these 95 minutes. I felt it was the best game since I came here, in the first half for 30 minutes we dominated the game. We had taken took some steps forward but have a few things to do better.

"The plan was to press them in the midzone and we did that very well in the first 30 minutes, and control the ball, and those were the positives. When you are 2-0 up you have to defend better than we did in the last 15 minutes.

"We gave away too many balls at times in the last 15 minutes, we were not as compact as before and conceded the two goals. In the last 15 minutes before half time we were not as courageous to step up, it was better in the second half and then you have to take the three points home. It feels like a defeat, to be honest.

"Right now is very disappointed but what we showed was a step forward but it about getting the results, it feels like two points lost and given away."

  6. 'Performance better than the result'

    Aston Villa 2-2 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes speaking to Sky Sports: "We got into the perfect position to score more goals and take the third goal and finish the game, but we don’t get our chance on the counters and gave the chances to them. They have good players up front and draw the game, it is tough to take because I think the game was under control.

"After our first goal they began to press us more, but still we had our chances and could have scored again. The shot was not good, the pass was not good and you start losing confidence, the game got bigger and they got more space between the lines, with the quality of players they have up front, they hurt you.

"The performance was better than the result, more controlled but the main point is winning games and points. We deserved more, but its not about deserving it is about getting points. We still have a lot to improve but it is about performance and results together."

  7. 'The reaction was fantastic'

FT: Aston Villa 2-2 Man Utd

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We were very positive in all the preparation work we did. We should have taken confidence from Monday [FA Cup defeat at Old Trafford] but we didn't start the game in the right place and were second best for 25 minutes. The first goal was coming because we didn't look right in that time. We improved slightly but certainly deserved to be trailing at the break. I had to tell a few home truths and the reaction was fantastic.

"We conceded against the run of play but didn't feel sorry for ourselves, we continued to show character and believe. I've got no problem with people making mistakes because they are making mistakes trying to do the right things, but what I can't accept is the first 25 minutes and how we played."

On Jacob Ramsey: "[The comeback] came off the back of us rolling our sleeves up and committing to the game, being aggressive, winning duels, being positive and playing on the front foot. The two goals we scored were fantastic. The substitutions really brought something to the game, but second half, I thought JJ was outstanding. He really showed why a lot of people are talking about him right now. At 2-0 down, a young kid, a homegrown lad to go and take the game by the scruff of the neck was really pleasing."

On Philippe Coutinho: "It is a good start. We've brought a quality footballer to the club. We need to get him up to speed in terms of his match sharpness."

As well as Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne also had an impressive debut. Very positive and always looked to be involved at both ends of the pitch.

  9. 'It is what dreams are made of'

FT: Aston Villa 2-2 Man Utd

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey speaking to Sky Sports: "I think I've scored three goals in the Prem, and both of them were away. I said to myself the next one had to be at home. I had the one disallowed against Leicester but I'm happy to get my first Villa Park goal."

On scoring in front of the Holte End: "Holte End singing your name: coming through the academy, that is what dreams are made of."

Uncle Busby: Remember a few weeks back when everyone was talking about United’s “favourable fixture list”? Mid-table side struggling to beat mid-table teams, it’s embarrassing to the PL if this horror show are considered a top 6 side.

Darren Normington: We’ve played Villa twice in one week and in all honesty should of lost them both. Unlucky Villa. Utd are just so frustrating to watch at the moment

  11. 'It was a good start'

FT: Aston Villa 2-2 Man Utd

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa midfielder Philippe Coutinho speaking to Sky Sports: "I missed these games and the Premier League. I'm very happy to be here with my new teammates. It was a good start, we kept believing until the end, but we didn't lose."

On whether he was nervous pre-game: "Yes, a little bit, I don't speak English very well, I prefer to be on the pitch than talking all the time. I'm happy, it was the first game and I want to work hard to improve and be in better shape."

On his time away from the Premier League: "There have been many ups and downs. It is in the past, I'm here and I'm focussed on the objectives of the club and the manager and I want to a good job to help my teammates and the club."

  12. 'Something isn't right'

FT: Aston Villa 2-2 Man Utd

    Chris Sutton

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

From Man United's point of view, they're seventh place, they're behind Spurs - and we look at Spurs and think they've had a disjointed season. Spurs have two games in hand.

Something isn't right, that's clear. There hasn't been the impact under Ralf Rangnick that everybody expected.

Jon Bissell: My favourite part of Coutinho’s performance is the way he sprinted to collect the ball out of the goal after Ramsey’s goal to chase the equaliser. Passion. Motivation. Already a Holte End legend. Let’s activate that buy clause already! UTV.

Alex Corps: What’s the point of saving your subs until the final minute. Particularly if you know your team struggles at the end of a game because they get physically or mentally tired. Bring the subs on after an hour so that their energy and focus can make a difference!

Philippe Coutinho was the man of the moment but Jacob Ramsey deserves huge credit for a brilliant performance - an assist and a goal, his first at Villa Park in the Premier League.
