Letters: Unvaccinated people are deathly to immunocompromised

Florida Times-Union

Nearly 10 million Americans are immunocompromised and I am one of them. I am 78, retired Air Force. I’m also a physician and lucky to have Drs. Faraye and Tun treating my B-cell lymphoma at Mayo. Unfortunately, Rituxan (my immunotherapy) prevents B lymphocytes from making COVID antibodies; in both May and December my antibody levels were zero.

I cannot risk treatment by unvaccinated techs, nurses or doctors. Such nonprofessionals should always be fired from patient care. No excuses, no bogus note from Mom or doctor. Every unvaccinated person is a potential assassin for me.

Naturally, the governor discourages COVID immunization, preferring treatment; perhaps he’ll work on measles next. Among many things he apparently doesn’t know is the fact that treating COVID — instead of preventing infections — endangers all immunocompromised individuals.

Thanks so much, Gov. DeSantis and Surgeon General Ladapo!
