Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady were at the core of any discussion about this year’s NFL MVP.
The regular season is now over and that means the cases are on the table to be decided.
Rodgers, who won last year, did not have the traditional stats to match up to Brady.
But he was efficient when on the field and a new development essentially proves he will be named MVP for the fourth time in his career.
That development is the naming of the 2021 All-Pro team.
Rodgers took home first-team All-Pro honors at quarterback over Brady.
And since the same AP voters decide the NFL MVP, this should be a good indication that the award is locked up.
Noting The Potential MVP Challengers
Brady has always been Rodgers’ top competition this season.
But both Jonathan Taylor and Cooper Kupp had impressive seasons to warrant a few votes as well.
The problem for each of their cases is that the award has become reserved for quarterbacks over the past decade.
So it would take a monumentally historic season to edge out one of the top signal-callers in the league.
Taylor’s Indianapolis Colts didn’t even make the postseason and Kupp had Matthew Stafford throwing him the ball all year.
Both had fantastic years, but the value to their respective teams is hard when it comes to a competition with legendary quarterbacks.
Rodgers got 34 votes and Brady got 16.
The MVP race being any different would be a shock and the only change will be some other players showing up in the results.
Taylor and Kupp were both unanimous All-Pro selections, so they will certainly show up in the MVP race.
Rodgers is now a first-team All-Pro for the fourth time and looks set to win his fourth MVP award.
If he keeps playing beyond this season, his legacy may only grow exponentially.
