Lorraine Braaten

GALESVILLE, Wis. — Lorraine Lucille Braaten, age 73, of Galesville, Wis., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, at her home, from complications related to Long COVID. There are currently no funeral services planned.

She was the daughter of Raymond and Delores (Bogenschutz) Sickler and grew up on a farm near Delavan, Minn. As a child, she enjoyed spending time with her siblings and learning to garden, cook and sew from her Grandma Sickler. Lorraine graduated from Delavan High School in 1966. She married Jeffrey Hinrichsen in 1969 and was blessed with two children, Julaine and Joe. Together, she and Jeff lived and worked on the family farm. Lorraine also kept busy with a wallpaper and painting business, served on the Pilot Grove Town Board, Elmore School Board, led bible study classes at Shiloh, helped in the Extension Office and worked at Bevcomm. In 1999 she met the love of her life, Ole Braaten. They resided in Fairmont where Lorraine helped as an x-ray technician in his clinic and she began taking her gardening and quilting skills to the next level. After Ole retired, they moved to Galesville, Wis., where she turned her nearly 4 acres into beautiful gardens. She always said “I have two seasons: gardening and quilting.” She will be remembered for her love of nature, beautiful gardens and the love she shared with Ole. Lorraine is survived by her husband, Ole Braaten; daughter, Julaine and John Brandsoy of Easton, Wash.; son, Joe and Beth Hinrichsen of North Mankato; five grandchildren, Jesse, Aspen, Jalen Brandsoy, Cade and Kara Hinrichsen; siblings, Gail and Gary Hagert of Shakopee, Yvonne Smith of Mankato, and Lawrence and Pam Sickler of Winnebago.
