First, Lyle Lovett rejoined the cast of Blue Bloods as Texas Ranger Waylon Gates in the first episode of 2022. And now, Jimmy Buffett is making his NYC crime-time debut.

In a teaser for this week’s new episode of Blue Bloods, Danny (played by Donnie Wahlberg) and Baez (played by Marisa Ramirez) are dolled up while out at a seemingly fancy restaurant. After clinking wine glasses, Danny remarks that Jimmy Buffett is sitting at the bar, to which Baez nudges him to go say hello. After doing so, the clip cuts to Danny on the boardwalk, chasing down Buffett, only to request his ID, and call him out on his identity.

While this back and forth would prompt most fans to wonder if Jimmy is playing himself on the show or is meant to be a lookalike trying to get by as the famous “Margaritaville” singer, all fans can remark on are Danny and Baez. “The question is why are they out in fancy clothes together,” one fan excitedly asked in the comments section of the Instagram post. “They better be out on a date,” another fan exclaimed. “So Danny and Maria eh?” someone else wrote, accompanied by a side-eye emoji. “Are we just going to ignore what looks like Reagan and [Baez] on a date?” another fan asked.

And the comments just kept coming. While we won’t know the backstory until January 14, given past remarks by the show’s creators (not to mention the actors themselves), it’s most likely that the two were undercover on an assignment—not suddenly together on a date.

But hey — we can hope!
