3 global Real Housewives, and 9 more reality shows coming to Discovery+

Discovery+ is adding a dozen reality TV series to its library, all of which are being licensed from NBCUniversal Global Distribution.

The shows are “a suite of iconic series,” Discovery+ said, calling them “hit, fan-favorite NBCUniversal titles” that come from NBC, Bravo, and E!, plus four reality shows from other countries.

That includes three Real Housewives franchises from around the world, the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and two seasons of Top Chef Canada.

Some of these shows below have aired on cable before, or are available for streaming, including on Peacock, the streaming service owned by NBCUniversal that one might think would be the natural home for NBCUniversal shows, but I suppose licensing them to Discovery+ makes more financial sense.

While most of Discovery+’s shows are from its family of cable networks—TLC, HGTV, Food Network, ID, Animal Planet, and Discovery Channel—the streaming service previously added some Lifetime, A&E, and History cable shows, such as Ghost Hunters, Hoarders, Married at First Sight, Forged in Fire, and Alone.

In a press release, executive Lisa Holme says, “As we continue to expand the discovery+ catalog with premium programming, these titles from NBCUniversal give our subscribers even more to love, truly offering something for everyone.”

While Discovery+ launched last year with a bunch of “exclusive” shows, most of those made their way to Discovery’s cable networks, giving people less of a reason to subscribe and/or alienating the people who’d paid, thinking their favorite shows were now streaming-only. But being able to see reality shows that are actually not available elsewhere might keep subscribers sticking around.
