Caylin Newton is reportedly in the transfer portal after 2 seasons at Auburn. The younger brother of Tiger legend Cam Newton committed to AU in May 2020 as a grad transfer from Howard.

Bennett Durando of the Montgomery Advertiser confirmed a report by Matt Zenitz of On3.

Caylin Newton was listed as a wide receiver on the 2021 Auburn roster, playing in 21 games for the Tigers over the last 2 seasons. He was primarily a special teams contributor, blocking a punt that helped Auburn defeat Georgia State this season. Newton’s Auburn bio shows 3 tackles and a 31-yard reception in 2021.

A quarterback at Howard, Newton threw for 2,629 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2018. He also rushed for 504 yards and 4 touchdowns. Newton was named the MEAC’s offensive player of the year that season. He announced in September 2019 he would be entering the transfer portal.

In 25 games at Howard, Newton passed for 5,876 yards, 41 touchdowns and 32 interceptions while rushing for 380 yards and 17 touchdowns. He is known for contributing 140 passing yards and 3 touchdowns in Howard’s epic upset of UNLV. Howard entered the game as 45-point underdogs.

Entering the transfer portal does not bind Newton to leave Auburn. In some cases, players withdraw from the portal and return to the team.
