In the Alex Murdaugh investigation, you've heard the names Mallory Beach, Stephen Smith and Gloria Satterfield.
Now, there may be a new name to learn: Hakeem Pinckney.
Pinckney was deaf. He was a student at SC school for the deaf and blind. He had perfect attendance, and was student of the year. But in 2009, a wreck changed everything.
"There's a single car accident. A tire tread separated the vehicle. The car rolls over and it was a horrible accident," said Justin Bamberg, the attorney for the family.
Hakeem became quadriplegic, then later died in a nursing home. His mother, sister and cousin were also in the car. They miss Hakeem. Now, the family is re-living this tragedy.
"You're talking about 10 years of secrets, 10 years of theft, 10 years of lies and deception, 10 years of people who had to live through the most traumatic experience of thier life," said Bamberg.
They filed a lawsuit, and Alex Murdaugh and Corey Flemming secured a settlement.
But, Justin Bamberg says Mrs. Pinckney didn't get what she was due.
"There was $89,000 that was supposed to go to Mrs. Pinckney. The settlement comes in 2011. This $89,000 in 2017, 6 years later, is supposed to go to Pamela. It doesn't," said Bamberg.
Bamberg said Murdaugh stole money meant for the family. Murdaugh has not been charged with anything, but Bamberg has shared his finding with investigators.
"We found there were checks that was 309,000 in change, 60,000, there was another for 325,000. These checks, that was money that was supposed to go to the client," said Bamberg.
Bamberg shared copies of three checks -- two from 2012 and one from 2016 written to Palmetto State Bank from Murdaugh's law firm.
You'll see Hakeem Pinckney's name written in the memo section of two checks. Bamberg is still trying to figure out how the money went to the bank instead of the family.
"Law enforcement is investigating everything. I'm sure they are looking at banking records. They are looking at checks that were written and things like that," said Bamberg.
Bamberg said he wants to get every dollar back for the family.
