EE Struggling to feel sympathy for Ben

Am I the only person who is struggling to feel any sympathy for Ben right now? While nobody deserves to be attacked for who they are, Ben is such a vile piece of filth that needs to be in jail or six feet under. I think the writers have backed the character into a corner after making him a sex trafficking maniac who hired a hitman to kill his cousin.

The isn’t the real Ben to me.
    Harry’s version was likeable.
Max’s version i have no interest in.

It’s just so out of character and comes off as preachy to be honest.

I'm finding it hard to sympathise with Ben to be honest, if Callum was in his position I would feel SO bad for him. But the producers of this show continuing to gloss over how vile Ben has been since his return (especially during Max Bowden's first few months) is mind-blowing!!!
Good acting from Max Bowden, good storyline! Just the wrong character at the forefront.

Ben is a very marmite character.

I think he is one of the most complex and interesting characters on the show and I like this storyline is bringing out another side to Ben that with Max in the role we were yet to see.

The trafficking, they should have never have done and left that to a disposable character they introduce for the storyline rather than have that linger of big characters. Ben is a character vital of the shows future imo.

He is son of Kathy and Phil who have been the show since the first episode and Feb 1990 respectively. With Denny killed off and Raymond still way too young if Steve reduces his workload in the next few years then Ben will be important for the Mitchells legacy in the show to stay. Whether you like him or not Ben is a character that if he leaves he will return recasted or not within a couple of years

I’ve never had any sympathy for him. Horrid, vile character.

I am starting to wonder if Gillian and Max don’t see eye to eye off screen. What other reason could there be for Ben and Kathy to have zero relationship on the show?

@bumpandgrind I mentioned this on Twitter last year and it didn't take long for me to be hounded down and condemned by the fandoms.

Great point plus the "keys to the kingdom speech" is pathetic to watch.

I didn't watch on his return so the whole trafficking thing passed me by iv kinda seen bits as I watched callum/Ben scenes to find out how they got together last year. As I didn't see that I do feel for him.

Yeh I actually had to turn the channel over to put a stop to my endless eye rolling when he was delivering his little piece to Callum! 😆 😴

He was attacked for being Gay so for that alone he has my sympathy but otherwise I know what you mean, just like his father he's a horrible person who has caused so much untold misery towards others whilst lacking any remorse for his actions yet as soon as anything bad happens to him the audience is somehow expected to automatically feel sorry for him straight away.🙄

So all in all what I'm trying to say is there's a LOT of legitimate reasons for why someone may want to hurt Ben but being Gay is most definitely not one of them (obviously).

I enjoyed that episode. It's left me feeling edgy for tomorrow though. I know it's only a soap but it doesn't make you think!

Are we going to see a lot of experts trying detonate the bomb

    There isn't a bomb happening

I haven’t seen that confirmed just some posters saying it

So why did they mention it in tonights episode

We would have had a trailer/promo pics of the explosion and we haven't had any so it's not happening.

Guess in 24hrs we will know for sure 😁

If there's a bomb in EE I will post no negative comments about EE and the state it is in for the whole of January #DryJanuary ;)

Nothing about it going off but there was a bomb tho

The plot was odd as usually when the Mitchells are attacked they do not sit around feeling sorry for themselves or talk about their feelings. Phil either gets someone to sort it out or turns into the incredible hulk himself.

I do think they seem to have backed Ben into a corner, I've only been watching EE again for a short time but I just can't connect the dots in my head that the guy on screen is supposed to be the same person as the cute little camp kid that danced around to Lady Gaga. The character, IMO, has been ruined by too many producers coming in with drastically contrasting visions of what the character is. From what I've seen over the last few months, all he's done is drag down anyone he's in a scene with. The actor himself is fine, but I can't help but feel the character is totally broken. If I were in charge I'd be strongly considering either killing him off or sending him for a long spell in prison! There are quite a few stale characters dragging the show down, and he's one of them.
