Google Finally Releases That Big Bug Fixing Update for The Pixel 6

After nearly six weeks of waiting, the Pixel 6 update is finally starting to roll out, and Google has posted the factory images and OTAs so you can sideload the update yourself.

This update rolls the December update in with the January security patch. So it’s liable to be a pretty big update when you do get it on your device. Downloading the OTA image from Google’s website comes in at about 1.9GB. That’s typically the size of a full, new version of Android. But given the many bug fixes in this update, this should not come as a surprise.

The update is not yet showing up on my Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, but it shouldn’t be too far out. You may get it today, or over the weekend, or even next week. Keep in mind, Google does like to do staged rollouts with these updates. That’s to ensure there are no show-stopping bugs in this update. And that’s also why the update was halted last month. Showing that the staged rollout did work.

Finally, getting these Pixel 6 bugs fixed

Google did send out a small update in November to help out the fingerprint sensor, but otherwise, this is the first update for the Pixel 6. And it’s a big deal. You see, the Pixel 6 series has a ton of bugs that need to be fixed. Including some that are really annoying for users. Leading some to switch devices, now of course not everyone has that ability to just up and switch to a new phone. But that’s how bad it has been.
