God of War Director: PlayStation Developers Bugged Leadership to Release Games on PC

God of War Director: PlayStation Developers Bugged Leadership to Release Games on PC - News

God of War director Cory Barlog in an interview with GameInformer revealed multiple first-party PlayStation studios had kept asking leadership about bringing their games to PC.

"I think it was the collective of studios all over saying this is a really good idea," said Barlog. "We should be looking into this. Eventually, I think it reached that tipping point.

"When we had sent so many suggestion box suggestions that they were like, 'I'm tired of hearing all this. Fine, we'll do this.' It's a process. We're still figuring it out as a company and as individual studios how to do this and what the process and strategy will be."

He was also asked asked if God of War Ragnarok would come to PC in less than four years. He wasn't sure as they are taking it one game at a time.

"I have no idea," he said. "Right now, we're taking it one game at a time, kind of looking at each one and determining, Okay, is this the best thing?' And we'll gauge how it does. Do people enjoy it? Did we do it right? Is there anything we did wrong? What can we do better in the future if we do this again? But at the end of the day, ultimately, it's Sony's decision."

The PC version of God of War (2018) is available for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.

I don’t think most developers are interested in console wars, artists tend to want all people possible to see their art

Well, it’s just for PC lol which in the “console wars” space, PC seems to be viewed as neutral ground. But it’s a start!

If only a certain fan base felt that way when MS started putting their games on PC.

Don`t think the PS games will go to Xbox anytime soon, but who knows (And MLB really is just the odd man out).

I 100% agree, I do not see MS games going to PS either, only exception being pre existing contracts from just before an acquisition. PS and MS need their exclusive librarys in the console space, otherwise we may as well just have PC services and call it a day.

Minecraft already existed on PS before the dev was purchased. Minecraft Dungeons is also classified as DLC and not a new game, so this isn't really a good example. MS has a history of supporting all previously existing games with their new DLC packs, while leaving new games themselves (including sequels) as console exclusive such as Hellblade 2.

Minecraft Dungeons is not DLC. Its a completely new and different game. Saying its DLC is like saying Gears Tactics is DLC to Gears 5.

Well then I stand corrected, I always assumed it was DLC and even had some sources on google claiming as such. A deeper look says otherwise I suppose. I suppose Minecraft is MS's odd man out then.

I do consider Left Behind and Lost Legacy "stand alone DLC" or expansions if you will. Even though they are sold as full games, but short ones.

So that tweet made a few yrs back had some truth to it in the end. He likely couldn't say what was going on at that time, but it turned out he was not only pushing for them to port it, but worked on it the past 2 years on top of that.

Never a bad thing for a game to become available to more people.

I think I'm going to hold off on getting Ragnarok in order for me to play it on my PC, but I think I'm going to double dip on God of War just to support Sony's decision.

DonFerrari Doctor_MG (on 14 January 2022)

I dont think I would be able to hold on for that long. But as I said, if the ports from PS5 to PC starts to be a very short timeframe I will go PC. Didnt gone this gen, because first it is still the minority of games, long after original release and PC Hardware in Brazil is obscenely expensive atm.

How will that happen if Ragnarok will launch in a few months on PS4 but likely take several years to go to PC?

SO you are doing some stretch by using how much the PS fan had to wait (and ignore it will be releasing shortly) versus how much you speculated the PC base will certainly have to wait? Very odd logic.

Yes they send their opinion, and when asked about if or when Ragnarok would launch on PC, they said that is up for Sony to decide. But sure keep your certainty that it will come in 1 year or 2 at most and your snark comments.

Sogreblute (on 14 January 2022)

In the article they literally say that people who didn't play it on console are probably never going to play it on console. YES, this is true. Even they understand most PC gamers won't get a console to play certain games. So this doesn't help the argument I've seen sometimes where people say Sony are porting their PS4 games to PC so PC gamers will buy a PS5 for the sequels. That isn't going to happen. If you want to sell to PC gamers then put your games on PC.

Trentonater Sogreblute (on 15 January 2022)

Getting people to buy the next game on ps5 is literally sony explicit strategy. to bring them into the ecosystem. Any amount of people making that decision no matter the proportion is worth it. Since there is zero downside to porting games after they have sold all they can on console. And THAT'S why day 1 ports of marquee titles won't be happening.

Sogreblute Trentonater (on 15 January 2022)

There is no proof putting games on PC affect console sales. These are 2 different types of markets/gamers. Microsoft realized this and Sony is slowly realizing this. Console gamers will stay on console and PC gamers will stay on PC. There is some overlap, but it's a small one that will not affect console sales. We already know from the GeForce Now leak that Demon's Souls, Sackboy, Ratchet and Clank, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, Returnal, and Ghost of Tsushima are coming to PC. These games are on PS5, so if Sony's goal was to pull in PC gamers to buy a PS5 then why would they put their PS5 games on PC? And this is only from the leak, we know there's more.

Exactly. There is a constant flow of people from PC to console and console to PC, be it multi ownership or dedicated platform. Sure the pc elitist will deny that possibility, and pretend they know better than the studies that Sony done before choosing this strategy.
If there was zero impact on the sales of Sony consoles with day and date release for PC they would have done it since the start of this plan.

Yet the majority of reviews on steam are those that have both PC and Console

So the fanbase needs to stop bugging the Playstation head and start complaining to each studio for asking their games go PC.

  • 0
Doctor_MG DonFerrari (on 14 January 2022)

I don't think it's a good idea to generalize like that. It's really a small minority of the fanbase that complains about these things.

  • +1
DonFerrari Doctor_MG (on 14 January 2022)

Possibly, but if they do the blame would go to studio heads and not PS heads like we see all the time people complaining, even though the plan was made by the previous head (which they ask to return) and seems like was because the devs themselves were asking for it.

What can I say besides the fact that It obviously must have been a serious reply to your bug bug bug comment and it should in no way be considered in a joking manner, even though the context was obvious to everyone but you I . give up and plead guilty to being deadly serious.

It doesn't change the tone of your reply, plus you have a habit of using xD , if you just said , dude sarcasm and the internet don't get along in the first place I would have understood ,after all I put 4 tongue in cheek emojis' in a row after a post recently and still got a serious reply but instead you kept saying don't blame me xD,still in the end any bugs found in every game ever made including those made before your birth are still all your fault???❤??‍????
