Ratings: Ghosts Eyes New Audience High, Call Me Kat and Pivoting Go Low
In the latest TV show ratings, CBS’ Young Sheldon (with 7.4 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating) and Ghosts (6.3 mil/0.6) are both on track for new season highs in audience (pending Nielsen finals). United States of Al (5.3 mil/0.5), B Positive (4.8 mil/0.5) and Bull (4.4 mil/0.4) were all steady.
Fox’s Joe Millionaire (1.6 mil/0.3) dipped from its premiere. Following Sunday’s NFL-boosted season opener, Call Me Kat (1.5 mil/0.3) fell to series lows, while Pivoting‘s second episode drew… 990K and a 0.2.
The CW’s Walker returned to 994,000 total viewers — its second-largest audience of the young season — and a 0.1 demo rating.
NBC’s The Blacklist (3.3 mil/0.4), SVU (4.1 mil/0.6) and Organized Crime (3.2 mil/0.5) were all steady.
Over on ABC, Women of the Movement this week averaged 3 mil and a 0.4; companion docuseries Let the World See (2.5 mil/0.4) was also steady.

Pivoting is a perfect example of how you can put together a group of really talented people, but if they don’t have actual chemistry, zzzzzzzzzzzzz. The premise has potential, but Fox will throw the axe as always.
The sitcoms should have aired an hour earlier.
Pivoting is pretty good. But, in this economy, and given the last few years, seeing a talented female doctor quit because she’s not happy probably won’t sit with viewers. And she’s the most sympathetic character. Next is the lady with a good job, and a hot husband who worships her, forcing herself to hang out with her kids during the afternoons, WHEN SHE’S DONE WITH HER JOB FOR THE DAY. Boo hoo.

And finally, there is the mother of three who is bored with her husband and is planning to cheat on him. I mean, why aren’t viewers rooting for these ladies.

That said, the show is funny enough if it wasn’t for that Kat Terd of a lead in. The first show is just unwatchable at this point.

Speaking of missing cast members, I wonder why Mitch Pileggi was absent on Walker last night. And for supposedly being a practicing attorney, Liam has to be one of the dumbest characters on TV.
One of the interesting aspects of Ghost is that the cast shifts episode to episode. Indian and flower child were absent this show. Sometimes they’re there and no pants and Viking are missing or a different mix therein.
Flower also MIA. In the period following the first few episodes at least one ghost/cast member usually has been absent on a rotating basis; presumably a matter of budget. Can’t remember which article said this, but when the show was picked up for a full season (of unknown duration) somebody said it would also be going all-the-ghosts-all-the-time.

Yes. I remember that same article stating all ghosts would be in all of the remaining episodes, but that was not the case last night.

That statement (which I believe came from one of Matt’s Inside Line articles) applies to the episodes that were ordered once the show got picked up for a full season, but last night’s episode (and next week’s episode) is a part of the initial 13 episodes made when the show first got picked up.
Walker beating Pivoting in audience numbers is genuinely funny.
Way to go, CBS! It is nice to enjoy a through-line of programming for one evening, on one network, that is not all one note (even with three sitcoms from same production team). Each of the Eye’s four sitcoms here has merit and strong characters to enjoy. Bull may be ending its run this season but remains engaging. (And I have been tempted to go to L&O: Organized Crime. Sorry, NBC, it just does not hold me.) Sorry for Fox as Kat and Pivoting hold promise. I am not sure there is a strategist on the Fox programming team. Thursdays after that Joe Millionaire? Not going to hold audience that way.
Oof. Guess Pivoting is done. I thought the pilot was just ok but had potential.
Stinks about Pivoting! It’s a funny show and has a lot of potential. The first episode was hysterical! Give it a chance people, please!!
Much to my surprise both Call Me Kat and Ghosts were on at the same time. I opted for Kat and was pleased to discover that not only was it good, but it was also FUNNY. Laugh out loud funny, in fact. I’ll catch up with Ghosts later today because I do enjoy that show, too.
Young Sheldon is easily the best sitcom on TV today. Very well written and the cast is superb. In fact, I think it is just as good — if not better — than the great Big Bang Theory ever was.
I watched the premiere of Ghosts and had given up in it. But, after reading get reviews, I went back and gave it another shot. So glad that I did because it is absolutely delightful.
And The United States of Al is one of the best surprises in a long time. I had doubts last season but it has picked up and is really entertaining in Season Two. Wonderful cast, especially the great Dean Norris.

Agreed on “United States of Al”. Another great episode last night – like you, I just really love this cast/these characters. I’m glad that its ratings remained steady, I really hope that bodes well for it getting a season 3 :).

These shows have a lot of laughs and a lot more heart than some traditional sit coms. It is a shame that Kat and Pivoting are competing with them. But I think we should wait a week or two because they aired them both twice this week and people might not have found them in their regular time slot.
I really want to like Call Me Kat, but I just can’t get into it. I know British shows don’t always transfer easily to the US, but they aren’t even trying to play the zaniness of Miranda. Mayim Bialik is no Miranda Hart, but she can be so much more comedic than the character she plays on Call Me Kat.
Just cancel Call Me Kat already so Mayim Bialik can host Jeopardy full time!!
I wish Call me Kat was not on opposite Ghosts, because Ghosts wins. I like them both though, can only watch one.
Am I the only one who thinks Walker should be solving more crimes than dealing with family issues? I like the show, but there’s too much focus on the family and there’s crimes being committed in Texas!
Comedy is hard to write. Drama is easier than comedy, but still pretty hard to write. Coming up with new crimes on a weekly basis isn’t easy, nor is shooting the action sequences (the OG Walker had an OCEAN of syndication money virtually guaranteed from mid S1 on, so they could spend more on weekly production).

Melodrama, especially if it is centered on relationships/family, is very easy to write, and even cheaper to produce. There is a reason why almost every CW show eventually devolves into cheap melodramas. They are easy to write and cheap to produce.
Yikes for Pivoting. It’s one thing for a show to have crummy ratings but when a CW show beats it in numbers, you know that show is in trouble. Anyone care to guess how long will it be before TVLine declares Pivoting a long-shot for renewal?
I would guess when the staff make their usual updates. I don’t think they update their scorecard on a regular basis unless something has been renewed or canceled.
Pitiful has a very lovely cast so I was excited to watch it but while watching both episodes I was on my phone and forgot it was even playing on the tv lol. It’s equivalent to a brick wall..

LOVE, LOVE “Ghost!” It’s a hoot, but one very small quibble, don’t know why but they seem to randomly exclude 1-2 of the ghosts in each episode, and without explanation. Anyways – great show!
pivoting’s has funny moments as does ghosts, but ever since last years debut i couldn’t get into call me kat. people keep saying pivoting has stereotypical characters with ‘no chemistry’? fox should of kept pivoting on sundays instead of moving to thursdays.

I love Ghosts! A breath of fresh air. Funny and a sitcom I can watch with my kids. Enjoyable fluff.

I really liked Pivoting… I’m a huge Maggie Q fan anyway and liked Ginnifer in Something Borrowed (not so much in OUAT). I’m still iffy on Eliza Coupe. First time coming across her as an actress.
