In response to the rising COVID-19 cases in the City of Reading and Berks County, Reading Mayor Eddie Morán announced Friday he is closing City Hall for two weeks as a preventative measure.
“Given the number of COVID infections that continue to grow in the City of Reading and Berks County due to the Omicron variant, I am closing City Hall for two weeks, beginning Tuesday, January 18th, immediately after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, with a scheduled return of Monday, Jan. 31st (unless otherwise extended)” said Morán in a media release.
“I do not make this decision lightly and have consulted with health professionals along with members of the City’s Emergency Management Coordinator in an abundance of caution. All City Hall employees, with the exception of those listed as essential, are expected to work from home during this time as City services continue to be provided.”
Morán also stressed that City services will continue during this time with little to no disruptions.
“We are hopeful that the rates of infection will begin to drop significantly so we may resume our regular schedules at City Hall. For members of the community that have not been vaccinated, please do so as quickly as possible as note our hospitals and clinics are being taxed heavily and will continue to stretch beyond capacity” said Morán.
