Pokémon Go Ditto - Shiny Ditto, how to catch

Ditto is one of the most mysterious monsters in Pokémon – numerous theories surround the origin of the tiny pink slime. One of them suggests that Ditto is a remnant from the cloning experiments that created Mewtwo from the genes of Mew. Wherever the truth may lie, you’ll need to catch Ditto in Pokémon Go to solve some Special Research tasks, including those on Mew and Meltan.

The catch: you’ll never be able to discover Ditto just like that on your screen because it’s always creeping around hidden – in the form of other Pokémon species. Which Pokémon you should catch in 2023 to catch Ditto and Shiny Ditto is explained in this guide.

Ditto list 2023: This is where Ditto hides in Pokémon Go

Ditto can now spawn as the following Pokémon in Pokemon Go:

    • Diglett
    • Grimer
    • Snubbull
    • Corphish
    • Starly
    • Roggenrola
    • Tympole
    • Litleo

Whenever you catch one of these Pokémon, there is a chance that it is actually Ditto. However, this only applies to regular variants of these monsters, as Shiny versions can never turn out to be Ditto.

You won’t know if you’ve caught the shapeshifter until after you’ve successfully netted it – your trainer avatar will emit a surprised “Oh?” and the Pokémon you’ve just bagged will transform back into Ditto in front of your eyes.

Niantic treats the actual chance of encountering Ditto as something of a state secret, but it definitely occurs quite rarely. As you can imagine, the Shiny version is an absolute rarity for this reason.

There’s no way to increase your chances of getting a Shiny Ditto in Pokémon Go, you just have to catch the creatures listed above as much as possible.

There is no known trick to attract Ditto and improve your chance of encountering it. Previously, the creature has been available as a reward for research breakthroughs in one month, which led to guaranteed encounters, and the Special Research for Kanto Tour guaranteed a Shiny Ditto. There will certainly likewise be occasions in the future when Ditto is guaranteed to be caught. In the meantime, you’ll need to hunt the Pokémon listed above to hope for a lucky catch.
