The creative minds over at Disney+ have taken some of our favorite Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars stories and adapted them into series that give us a better understanding of the characters and introduce new plot points and characters to love, like The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Hawkeye, High School Musical: The Musical, and Book of Boba Fett.

Variety recently reported that another film is in the works for its own Disney+ series, Real Steel.

Real Steel is a futuristic sci-fi/sport adventure film that was released in 2011. The film starred multi-talented Hugh Jackman, and some of our favorite heroes from the MCU, Evangeline Lilly, and Anthony Mackie.

The film was inspired by the short story “Steel” which was written by Richard Matheson in 1956. It follows the story of Charlie Kenton, a former boxer, and his relationship with his estranged son, Max. The two reconnect in the new sport of robot boxing as their underdog robot, Atom, takes on the challenge to become the next robot boxing champion.

The Disney+ series project is still in the very early stages of development and a writer has not been connected. Though Shawn Levy, the film’s director, and Robert Zemeckis have been designated as executive producers. There is still speculation if the series will continue with the same characters from the film or follow others on their journey in this storyline.

The Real Steel story has heart and a family focus, so it seems to fit the niche of the Disney+ brand.
