'Pokemon Unite' Trevenant Release Date and Time: When Is the Ghost Type Being Added?

Trevenant will be coming to Pokemon Unite in the next few days, bringing the total number of playable fighters up to an impressive 30.

Since it launched back in July 2020, the free-to-play Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) has been supplemented with regular updates. As part of these, ownership licenses for characters like Dragonite, Mamoswine and Gardevoir have been made available for players to unlock. You can get them by either winning enough matches or by exchanging real-world money for gems.

The next Pokemon that is being added to the roster (which has ballooned from 20 fighters to 30) is the grass-ghost hybrid Trevenant. Without seeing a picture of the character for reference, the pun inherent in its name might not be immediately clear, but it's essentially a reference to how it is part tree and part phantom.

If you want a quick history lesson on Trevenant, it's a 6th generation pocket monster that was introduced in the joint release of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y (2013). It resembles a gnarled tree with angular branches for horns, peeling bark that forms a malevolent scowl, tendrils that lump together into claws, and roots that are used for mobility (evoking spider legs).

Throughout the franchise, Trevenant has taken on different properties and demonstrated various abilities. It has been able to control inanimate trees, inflict ghost damage with the "Shadow Claw" move, heal itself and exert psychic influence over opponents.

With a ligneous body, it's naturally weak to fire damage but otherwise has high defensive attributes.

'Pokemon Unite' Trevenant Release Date and Time

Trevenant will soon be making the transition to Pokemon Unite, where it will provide trainers with another option for defending (positioned as an alternative to the likes of Snorlax or Crustle).

Details on its moveset and stats have yet to be unveiled, but the trailer does showcase that it will be able to use its roots for an Area of Effect (AoE) attack. It also looks like Trevenant will be able to deal curse damage and summon a giant hammer with which to smash opponents.

In terms of when Trevenant will be arriving in Pokemon Unite, the official release date is January 20.

The developers at have yet to confirm a specific time but, if past updates are anything to go by, then it will likely be at 2 a.m. ET. For those in other time zones, this translates to 7 a.m. GMT or 11 p.m. PST on January 19.
