Square Enix has announced that MMO Final Fantasy XIV Online will once more be available to buy from January 25.

The game had suspended sales in December to try and ease issues surrounding server congestion following the launch of new expansion Endwalker. In a new post on the game’s official website, producer and director Naoki Yoshida outlined the studio’s plans to address the issues in 2022.

These plans include opening new data centres for the Oceania region. Happily, these have gone well and will actually be opening two weeks earlier than originally planned. There’ll be five new world servers, up from a planned three. Players in that region will be able to transfer their characters over from January 25. In addition, Square say they’ll waiver the usual transfer fees to reward players that do so.

The team say they’ll be monitoring the opening of this new server, and their capacity to accommodate new players. Once they’re sure everything’s ticking along, they hope to resume purchases worldwide soon after that January 25 date. However, they do warn that they “may consider suspending digital sales again” if things don’t go to plan. They’ll also resume free trial registrations “after monitoring server stability a little longer.”

Other additions include the recommencement of the Home World Transfer Service the day after for all players. Square are also planning to expand the data centres in other regions, first with Japan in July & North America around August. European servers will also be expanded in two phases in July 2022 and in summer 2023.

A victim of its own success, Final Fantasy XIV Online has had a surge of popularity over the past year, resulting in heavy server congestion. Hopefully, there’s some light at the end of the tunnel soon.
