Ubisoft has revealed a The Settlers reboot, releasing on March 17, 2022.
The Settlers reboot will be a Ubisoft Original, and is a departure from the original series. Instead of a city-building focus, the new Settlers game will focus instead on its RTS elements. This will surely disappoint fans, but Ubisoft feels confident enough with their new approach to the series. To help ease fans into the new game, Ubisoft will open Closed Beta testing starting January 20. If you want to take part in the Closed Beta testing, you can register here.
According to Ubisoft's press release:
“Developed by Ubisoft Düsseldorf, The Settlers returns as a reboot which takes inspiration from The Settlers 3 and The Settlers 4, two of the most popular games in the franchise. Players can expect a fresh take on the new The Settlers, built from the ground up using Ubisoft’s proprietary Snowdrop Engine, The Settlers sets a new visual benchmark in the RTS game genre. Traditional and new players will experience lush and colorful environmental biomes, as well as modernized gameplay. Players can enjoy The Settlers in one of three game modes: single-player campaign, Onslaught and skirmish (Solo vs. AI, co-op vs. AI or PvP featuring up to eight players).”
The game is now up for pre-orders on the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store with two versions – Standard and Deluxe.
