TWICE Makes History as the K-pop Girl Group with the Most RIAJ Album Certifications

TWICE has recently received another album certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (hereinafter RIAJ), making them the K-pop girl group with the most albums certified in Japan.

TWICE Becomes the K-pop Girl Group with the Most Album Certifications Given by RIAJ

On Jan. 14, the RIAJ released the new batch of albums that have been certified in Japan for reaching a certain number of units shipped across the country.

One of these albums is TWICE's "Doughnut," the group's latest Japanese single released on Dec. 15 of last year. The album received an official gold certification.

The RIAJ certifies an album gold when it records 100,000 units shipped. The JYP girl group attained this number of copies in less than a month.

TWICE's "Doughnut" becomes the group's 15th album to earn a RIAJ album certification, making the nonet the K-pop girl group - as well as the female international artist in history - with the most certified albums in Japan.

In particular, "Doughnut" is the band's fifth album to be certified gold, following "#TWICE3," "BETTER," "Kura Kura" and "Perfect World."

In addition to these five gold RIAJ album certifications, TWICE has nine platinum and one double platinum RIAJ album certifications.

The JYP girl group remains the only K-pop artist to certify all of their Japanese singles since their debut by the RIAJ.

About TWICE's "Doughnut" and Its Chart Performance

Physically released on Dec. 15, "Doughnut" is TWICE's ninth Japanese single, which is a holiday-themed work. It marks the group's first to have a title that is a ballad. The single also features the B-side song "Wonderful Day."

TWICE's "Doughnut" follows the group's Japanese studio album, "Perfect World," which arrived on July 28, 2021. The latter album contains the chart-topping songs "Perfect World" and "Kura Kura."

The title track "Doughnut" was digitally released on Dec. 2, and it quickly debuted at No. 69 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart.

On Dec. 15, TWICE's Japanese single landed on the Worldwide iTunes Album at No. 10 as well as on the European iTunes Album Chart at No. 38. It also topped iTunes Album charts in Taiwan, Finland, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, the Philippines, and more.

"Doughnut" went on to enter Billboard's Japan Hot 100 for the week (dated Dec. 22) at No. 6. It is the JYP girl group's 22nd song to land inside the Top 10. It is also the group's third song in 2021 to debut within the Top 10, following "Kura Kura" and "The Feels."

Besides the ballad, the other TWICE songs that made the weekly chart are "The Feels" and "SCIENTIST," which ranked No. 23 and No. 68 respectively.

Meanwhile, the numbers of views for TWICE's "Doughnut" music video hit 2.9 million views and over 466,000 likes in the first 24 hours of its release on Dec. 2. It then surpassed eight million views in less than a week and 10 million views on Dec. 17.
