When a doll is so lifelike and beautiful that it comes between a young man and the woman who loves him, something must be done.

So that young woman, Swanhilda, and her friends dance into action and discover a plot by an inventor to use a magic spell to transfer the soul of a living person into his lifelike, mechanical doll.

That is the basic plot of the ballet “Coppélia” that will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Robinson Theatre in Colorado Mesa University’s Moss Performing Arts Center, 1221 N. 12th St.

“Coppélia” will be performed by dancers from Dance Works. Tickets cost $20 at the door.
