Portland Opera Receives Major NEA Grant for ‘The Central Park Five’

The Portland Opera has received a major grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The company received $30,000 to support its production of “The Central Park Five,” which is scheduled for performances in March 2022.

“We are so grateful to the National Endowment of the Arts for their support of this production of ‘The Central Park Five,’ and we’re so excited to share this important opera,” said Sue Dixon, General Director of Portland Opera, in an official press statement. “Their commitment to supporting and celebrating artistic vitality and leadership nationwide helps us create and share public programming, like this brilliant new piece, with the community.”

The Anthony Davis work will be directed by Nataki Garrett and will be conducted by Kazem Abdullah. The opera will star Aubrey Allicock, Bernard Holcomb, Nathan Granner, Donovan Singletary, Victor Ryan Robertson, Johnathan McCullough, Hannah Ludwig, Jazmine Olwalia, Ibidunni Ojikutu, Babatunde Akinboboye, Christian Sanders, and Elliott Paige.
