More than a decade after the original film was released, Real Steel is now reportedly receiving a TV series adaptation over on Disney+.

According to Variety, the media giant is planning on turning the 2011 picture into a series over on its popular streaming platform, with director Shawn Levy returning as executive producer alongside Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke, Jacqueline Levine, Susan Montford and Don Murphy. Since the project is still in its early stages, no writer has been attached yet and it’s unclear whether the series will follow the plot of the film or simply share the same concept and universe but branch off with new characters.

For those unfamiliar, Real Steel is based on Richard Matheson’s short story Steel and is set in the near future where human boxers have become redundant and replaced by massive fighting robots instead. Hugh Jackman portrayed the lead character Charlie Kenton, a former boxer who fixes up an old robot model with his estranged son in hopes of turning it into a fighting champion.

As expected, there’s currently no release date yet for the new Real Steel adaptation, so those interested should stay tuned for more updates to come.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Red Notice is planning two more back-to-back sequels.
