In the Hitman 3 Year 2 reveal stream, developers IO Interactive were happy to announce their 2022 plans. Firstly, Hitman 3 Year 2 will be available January 20, 2022. With another year of support, Hitman 3 gets two new game modes.

Hitman 3 Year 2 New Game Modes:

Elusive Target Arcade

Elusive Target Arcade is available starting January 20. IO Interactive says it gives new ways to challenge players, and provide a fresh experience. Agent 47's actions now feel more tense and impactful. Players will no longer go after one or two targets, but several – one after the other. Elusive Target Arcade also introduces new objectives and complications throughout the game's levels.

Players will feel more pressure, since failing means you have to wait until the next day to try again. Elusive Target Arcade will be permanently available, and will receive constant updates once launched.

Freelancer

The reveal stream gave us a glimpse of Freelancer, the second new game mode in Year 2. Introduced as a brand new way to play Hitman 3, Freelancer provides Agent 47 a customizable safe house. Inspired by roguelike games, IO Interactive took a different approach to Agent 47's missions. Freelancer will put players in the shoes of a hitman – planning, strategizing, and working up the target ladder in order to corner the Leader. In Freelancer, not everything will be handed to the player. The intel is incomplete, and not everything is prepared. It will provide varied experiences, and success “comes down to skill, wits, and creativity.” Players will have to build their arsenal from on-location suppliers, and these items are not persistent. Meaning, when you die or drop them, they're gone forever.

IO Interactive said they're going for “sweaty palms” this time, and that it encourages roleplaying. Players will get to choose their angle of approach, even the order of the targets, until they reach the Leader. The Leader isn't initially revealed, and Agent 47 will have to unravel their identity, all the while being wary of the Leader's goons and allies.

Hitman 3 Year 2 PC VR Support

Year 2 also brings PC VR Support, providing control of 2 hands and body movement. IO Interactive shared their thoughts, saying they wanted to make sure the throwing system worked. And work it did, as according to them “it just clicked.” Close combat with 2 hand controllers were also extremely satisfying with the new level of freedom VR provides. IO Interactive said “it turns into a kind of ballet… and you can really express your version of [Agent 47].”

The extra control players get also enhances Hitman 3‘s levels, and the more action packed areas will make you feel “extremely badass… or elegant.”

Hitman 3 Year 2: Technical Improvements

Hitman 3 will receive better reflections and shadows, thanks to Ray Tracing. Its already beautiful environments will become more life-like, as the metals and waters will imitate light rays as they are in life. There was also mention of IO Interactive's partnership with Intel, utilizing their XeSS technology. This, along with Variable Rate Shading, will help Agent 47 and the world around him to life.

Hitman 3  Steam Release

Hitman 3 will come to Steam January 20, 2022, with full support. A pack of the entire World of Assassination trilogy will also be available. This aside, Hitman 3  will also be available in the Xbox Game Pass catalog soon.

Along with the Steam release, IO Interactive also gave a sneak peek of a new map, codenamed “Rocky.”
