ALBANY, NY – A 23-year-old Albany man who seriously injured his father during a domestic related incident this morning on Orange Street has been charged with attempted murder.

Gerald Fraser was arrested following an investigation by members of the Albany Police Department.

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022 around 6:50 a.m., officers responded to a home on Orange Street between Chapel Street and Theatre Row for reports of a domestic related incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 61-year-old male with a large laceration to his head and several other injuries to his body.

He was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he is currently admitted with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries. Further evaluation at the hospital determined that in addition to the large laceration on his head, the victim also sustained several fractures to his body including his face, ribs and spine.

Fraser and his 62-year-old mother were also located inside the home upon police arrival.

Through the investigation, detectives learned that Fraser had forced his parents to sit in chairs at the home before proceeding to strike his father several times with a chair, a vase and a television. Fraser also doused his father with rubbing alcohol in an attempt to set him on fire and stabbed him in both him arm and leg with a screwdriver.

His mother was not injured during the incident.

Fraser was taken into custody at the scene and subsequently charged with Attempted Murder 2nd, Unlawful Imprisonment 1st, Unlawful Imprisonment 2nd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, Criminal Mischief 3rd and Criminal Contempt 1st.

He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
