My Hero Academia Is Entering the Battle Royale Space

The latest issue of Weekly Jump, a Shonan manga anthology, has an advertisement for a previously unannounced Bandai Namco game, My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble. The game looks to be a free-to-play 24-player Battle Royale set in the world of My Hero Academia. A release date was not given, but the game will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. Bandai Namco will also hold an open beta at an unforeseen date.

The advertisement has screenshots of the upcoming game, but it’s hard to pull out concrete details. It shows familiar characters from the manga duking it out, and there are numbers plastered on the top left of the screen in the format of “4 vs 12.” Interestingly, some screenshots show All Might, one of the main heroes in the manga, seemingly helping civilians, an odd mechanic for a Battle Royale game. For the anime/manga fans, we’ve spotted characters like All Might, Bakugo, Midoriya, Todoroki, and Shigaraki.

Besides these small details, there is not much to go on; in fact, the original source, a Twitter post, has since been taken down (Gematsu has provided the image). It looks like the user may have got an early copy of Weekly Jump and announced the game early. All signs point to My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble being real. We just have to wait for Bandai Namco to make an official announcement.

The popular anime about a world filled with powers (quirks) has had video game adaptations before like the 3D fighter, My Hero One’s Justice. Bandai Namco is, of course, known for similar fighting games from properties such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Naruto. Additionally, they plan to release Dragon Ball Breakers this year, an asymmetric online survival game in which humans face off against the toughest Dragon Ball villains.
