Simulation game publisher Astragon Entertainment has announced that it has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Team17.
Team17 is a game publisher with quite a few titles under its belt; most recently, it has purchased the Hell Let Loose IP and mobile publishing company The Label. However, it has also had some difficulties as of late; Team17 parted ways with Beyond Eyes developer Tiger and Squid late last year. More recently, Team17 ended its publisher relationship with Ready or Not developer Void Interactive.
Although Team17 has cut loose some developers, it continues to grow -- it is now primed to acquire Astragon Entertainment, a game publisher that has a strong focus on simulation games.
Team17 Grows Its Catalog with Astragon Entertainment Acquisition
Team17 already has an expansive list of games under its umbrella. The acquisition of Astragon Entertainment gives it a fairly large catalog of simulation games to make its offerings even better than before.
"We look forward to working closely with astragon’s joint CEOs Julia and Tim and their whole team who share our ambitions to grow their own IP titles on the path to developing a leading global simulation portfolio brand as part of the Team17 family," Team17 CEO Debbie Bestwick MBE said in a press release.
"Team17 is the perfect home for astragon Entertainment GmbH as we enter into this exciting new chapter," said Astragon Entertainment CEOs Julia Pfiffer and Tim Schmitz. "From the first day we felt that Team17 shares the same vision for our games and understands our target group. Our goal is to become the number one brand in the field of ‘working’ simulation games. Collaborating with Team17 will enable and help astragon to evolve and focus on this strategy. We look forward to the possibilities that are opened up by working with what we believe to be a great partner to deliver our ambitions."
The acquisition will see Team17 pay out an initial cash sum of €75 million (USD$85.95 million) with further consideration of up to €25 million (USD$28.65 million). This acquisition will see the addition of more than 20 games to its catalog. You can buy astragon's latest game Bus Simulator 21 on Steam for $34.99 or your regional equivalent.
