Michael McGlynn, of East Greenwich, Dies at 88

McGlynn, Michael, of East Greenwich, RI, and Killaneen, Ballinamore, County Leitrim, Ireland, 88, passed away on January 11, 2022.

Michael was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Marie (Dwyer) McGlynn. Michael leaves behind two sons: Kieran P. McGlynn and his wife Karen (Brannon) of Matunuck, and retired RISP Capt. Michael J. McGlynn and his wife Amanda (Lacey) of Wickford.

Michael was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren: Caroline, Kieran, Declan, Gavin, and Sean McGlynn. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Rosemary M. Dwyer of North Providence, and Barbara Dwyer of North Kingston, and brothers-in-law, Patrick J. Dwyer of Warwick and Donald T. Martin of Glastonbury, Connecticut, along with many nieces and nephews, in addition to his extended family and close friends in Ireland. He was also predeceased by his brothers-in-law, John (Sean) and Thomas L. Dwyer, and his sister-in-law, Kathleen (Dwyer) Martin.

Michael was born in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim, Ireland, the son of the late Terance and Lucy (Dolan) McGlynn.

Michael was an award-winning and well-known national salesman for Calor Kosangas in Ireland. In 1977, Michael and his family moved to the United States, where he continued his sales career with Galego Oil Company. He "retired" from Dupuis Energy in 2013 despite going to the office daily until March of 2020, when the world was put on pause.

Michael was a communicant at Our Lady of Mercy Church in East Greenwich and a former member of the Irish Ceilidhe Club in Cranston.  Michael was also a proud member of the Associates of the Rhode Island Troopers Association. 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2022 from 9:00-10:00 am in the Prata-Gallogly Funeral Home, 78 Providence, Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third Street, East Greenwich, to which relatives and friends are invited.  

Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
