This is the Toyota GR GT3 Concept, unveiled at the ongoing Tokyo Auto Salon and one of the more striking concept cars released by the automaker in recent memory.

While it is unclear if the Japanese automaker actually intends on building a production model and racing it through the Toyota Gazoo Racing division, there’s no denying that the GR GT3 Concept looks very different than the other GT3 race cars that Toyota has built in the past.

Found at the front of the GR GT3 Concept is a large grille and a pronounced splitter to aid in aerodynamics. The car also has a set of intriguing split headlights. The length of the hood makes the concept stand out even further and encompasses a large air vents and louvers over the front wheel arches. This being a proper racing car, it is also equipped with center-locking wheels wrapped in Bridgestone slicks and sitting over a set of large brakes.

Toyota has also equipped the front-engine racer with exhausts exiting from just behind the front wheels. It also has small wing mirrors and a flowing roofline not dissimilar to the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe.

Found at the rear of the concept is a massive wing with swan neck uprights and an LED light bar stretching the full width of the car. Toyota has also equipped it with a massive diffuser to stick the driven wheels to the ground.

Perhaps the most important thing about the GR GT3 Concept is that it is not based around an existing production car, like the Lexus RC F GT3 and Supra GT300 race cars. Instead, it has been built from the ground up, allowing Toyota’s designers to give it a design far different from any of its road cars.

The bZ4X GR Sport Concept

Toyota has also unveiled a second concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon, dubbed the bZ4X GR Sport Concept. Based around the automaker’s existing electric SUV co-developed with Subaru, it has been equipped with larger wheels and tires, matte black body panels, and sports seats. Toyota hasn’t said if it will spawn a production variant.
