VIDEO: Suspect sought for Midtown carjacking, using Taser on driver

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD is searching for a suspect who attempted to carjack a vehicle in Midtown before clashing with cops and fleeing, cops said Thursday as they released police body camera footage from the incident.

According to authorities, officers responded at around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday to a 911 call about a vehicle robbery in the vicinity of West 54th Street and Broadway.

Upon arrival, cops were informed by the 30-year-old victim that he was sitting inside his car when the suspect entered his vehicle through the rear driver's side and threatened him with a Taser.

A struggle between the victim and the suspect ensued, and the victim was tased. Police said the victim exited the vehicle and the suspect jumped into the driver's seat, attempting to flee the location.

Officers searched the immediate area and spotted the individual inside the victim's car, authorities said. The cops attempted to stop the vehicle and the suspect attempted to flee.

Authorities said the cops approached the vehicle and the suspect proceeded to fight the officers. Eventually, he fled in the vehicle a short distance before crashing and fleeing on foot into the 59th Street-Columbus Circle station.

An officer suffered minor injuries, police said.

The suspect was last seen wearing dark colored clothing and was described as around 30 years of age, 5'8" and weighing 180 pounds.
