Nick Abruzzese and Sean Farrell Named to 2022 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior forward and captain Nick Abruzzese and sophomore forward Sean Farrell will represent the United States in men's ice hockey at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, USA Hockey announced on Thursday (Jan. 13).
 
Abruzzese, a native of Slate Hill, NY, leads Harvard with 21 points (five goals, 16 assists) and leads the NCAA with an average of 1.62 points per game. He has recorded a team best seven multiple-point efforts so far this season, most recently with three points (goal, two assists) in Saturday's win over Union. Abruzzese had a prolific first-year season for Harvard in 2019-20. He earned CCM/AHCA Hockey Second Team All-America honors. He led all NCAA first-years in scoring with 44 points and was named the ECAC Hockey and Ivy League Rookie of the Year, First Team All-ECAC Hockey and First Team All-Ivy.
 
Farrell, a native of Hopkinton, Mass., is second on the team with 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists). He is fifth in the NCAA with 1.46 points per game and has points in nine of 13 games for Harvard, including a team-best five power play goals (9th, NCAA).
 
Harvard has now had 30 men's hockey alumni selected as a coach, player, or member of team personnel of their respective national teams, including current head coach Ted Donato '91, who represented the U.S. at the 1992 Winter Olympics. Harvard has 24 U.S. Olympic team player selections all-time.
 
Four years ago, Ryan Donato was the talk of the U.S. men's ice hockey team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Donato led Team USA with five goals, scoring four in two wins against Slovakia, and adding another in the team's 3-2 (SO) quarterfinal loss to the Czech Republic. Donato surpassed his father Ted's goal total (4) from the 1992 Olympics. Joining Ryan Donato in South Korea was former Harvard standout Noah Welch '05, a two-time All-American and standout defenseman at Harvard.
 
Men's hockey competition at the 2022 Olympics begins on Feb. 9 and concludes on Feb. 20.
