With the help of Mobile Police, Daphne investigators now have a 17-year-old male shooting suspect in custody. The arrest follows Wednesday night's shooting of a 20-year-old woman on Pollard Road. The incident happened at the intersections of County Road 64 and Pollard during busy rush hour traffic.

Police say the victim and the suspect both grew up together. Police say they've known each other for years, they went to high school together and their families were close.

Settling a dispute with a gun was absolutely the wrong choice, say police. " Its concerning that people of this age would settle a dispute and immediately choose the nuclear option shooting at someone especially somebody they've known for more than a decade. we all find that disturbing," said Cpl. Jason Vannoy Daphne Police Department.

Police are not releasing the victim's name, a 20-year-old woman who tonight is recovering from three gunshot wounds to the lower back at a Pensacola hospital. The 17-year-old suspect now charged as an adult is facing a charge of attempted murder.

"The victim's vehicle was following him, they had a very brief nonphysical confrontation when they stopped and the young lady was shot three times," said Vannoy.

Police say the 17 year old suspect is claiming self-defense but the victim who police say approached his vehicle on foot did not have a weapon.

After last night’s shooting on Pollard Road officers tracked the suspect to a relative’s home on Stuart West Drive where there had been drive by shooting in Mobile before the arrest last night.

"We know it was a drive by situation from what I was told it was 8 to 10 shots that were fired into the home and nobody was hit thankfully," said Vannoy.
