The Return of Real Steel: New Television Series in Early Development at Disney+

For years there were rumblings of a Real Steel sequel that would bring back Hugh Jackman in another movie based on the short story "Steel" by Richard Matheson. Unfortunately it never came to fruition. But now there is news that Disney is developing a brand new series that will be based on the 2011 movie. In the film, human boxers were replaced with robotic counterparts. The movie saw Hugh Jackman partner with his estranged son to rebuild a junkyard robot and turn it into a world champion.

While no details have been released yet and no writer or production staff has been assigned to the project, it looks like Shawn Levy will return to executive produce the series. He directed the movie version but is not attached in that role at this time. There is no current announcement for when the project will begin filming as it is in early development but is said that they will be attempting to fast track it.

This would add another layer of IP to the already amazing lineup that Disney has on there streaming service that includes Marvel, Star Wars, and several other major brands and franchises.
